The Pokémon Company shared these fantastic launch figures, noting that approximately half of these sales were for the special Switch 2 Edition of the game.
These stellar sales figures for Pokémon Legends: Z-A encompass both physical and digital purchases. While the game’s bundle with the Switch 2 undoubtedly contributed to its success, it’s worth noting that the original Nintendo Switch hardware sales still significantly overshadow the newer Switch 2, with 153 million units sold compared to the Switch 2’s 6 million.

This latest installment marks the second entry in the Pokémon Legends series. Its predecessor, Pokémon Legends: Arceus, made an even bigger splash in early 2022, selling 6.5 million copies in its first week and setting a new record for the franchise at the time. However, that record was quickly eclipsed later the same year by Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, which sold an astonishing 10 million copies in just three days! Collectively, these titles have propelled the Pokémon franchise to an incredible achievement: nearly half a billion copies sold worldwide.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A officially arrived on October 16th for both Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. Its title hints at its roots, positioning it more as a spiritual successor or sequel to Pokémon X and Y rather than a direct follow-up to Arceus. Excitingly, future plans include a paid DLC expansion for Pokémon Legends Z-A, known as ‘Mega Dimension’.
