It was announced on Sunday, September 21, 2025, that Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump, alongside a select group of Muslim leaders. These important discussions will take place on the sidelines of the annual U.N. General Assembly session.
Prime Minister Sharif will lead a delegation to the U.S. from September 22-26 to participate in the 80th Session of the UNGA in New York. He will be joined by Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, other ministers, and senior officials.
A statement from the Foreign Office (FO) in Islamabad indicated that the Prime Minister will also engage in a meeting with specific Islamic leaders and U.S. President Trump. The purpose of this gathering is to discuss pressing matters related to regional and international peace and security.
During his address to the General Assembly, Prime Minister Sharif is expected to call upon the international community to address and resolve what he termed ‘prolonged’ global issues, as stated by the Foreign Office.
Specifically, Mr. Sharif plans to highlight the severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza, urging the international community to take decisive action to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.
Furthermore, he will present Pakistan’s perspective on the prevailing regional security landscape. He will also address other significant international concerns, including climate change, the ongoing fight against terrorism, the rise of Islamophobia, and the pursuit of sustainable development.
The Prime Minister’s agenda includes attendance at several high-level events held concurrently with the UNGA Session. These include crucial meetings of the UN Security Council, a High-Level Meeting dedicated to the Global Development Initiative (GDI), and a Special High-Level Event focused on Climate Action, among others.
He is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings on the sidelines with various world leaders and senior UN officials to discuss issues of mutual interest.
In his address, he will reiterate Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to multilateralism and the United Nations. He will emphasize the nation’s determination to collaborate with all UN Member States in upholding the UN Charter, preventing conflicts, fostering peace, and advancing global prosperity, particularly in light of Pakistan’s current role as a member of the Security Council, the FO elaborated.
