A quick heads-up: the latest update for Wuchang: Fallen Feathers was slightly delayed and is now expected later today, September 17.
Even if I’m not the best at challenging soulslike games, I’m always captivated by their stunning visuals. Recently, we’ve seen a surge of fantastic action titles set in China, like Black Myth Wukong and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, which I personally adore. Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, however, has had a different journey. Despite being praised by us at PCGamesN, it currently holds ‘mixed’ reviews on Steam, sitting at 69% lifetime positive ratings. But don’t count it out just yet! Its new deluxe edition expansion might just be the perfect hook, especially with some complimentary items available for existing base game owners.
In Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, you step into Ming Dynasty China as Wuchang, a brave pirate warrior. Your mission? To uncover the source of a new, monstrous virus. This affliction, ominously dubbed ‘Feathering,’ is transforming the land of Shu into a realm of bloodthirsty abominations, and it’s up to you to end its terror.
Our own reviewer, Nat, hailed the game as a “gold-standard soulslike” in her 8/10 Wuchang Fallen Feathers review. However, its initial launch was far from flawless. It faced significant performance issues and was even caught in a ‘censorship’ controversy when a patch inadvertently rendered some bosses unkillable. Despite these hurdles, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers has steadily improved its standing, with recent player reviews now leaning ‘mostly positive.’
You can get a visual taste of the new content by checking out the official trailer for the deluxe edition expansion, which showcases the dazzling new outfits and formidable weaponry.
After some anticipation, developer Leenzee has finally unveiled exciting new content exclusively for deluxe edition owners. This includes two striking new costumes: the formidable Forged Iron and the radiant Radiant set. Players also gain access to two powerful fresh weapons: the Hooked Blade Spear and the Blazing Nightlotus. And there’s more to come, with another two costumes and two weapons planned for future updates throughout 2025. You can upgrade to the deluxe edition for $9.99 / £7.99 to claim all these exclusive extras.
But if you prefer to stick with the base game, don’t worry – there’s good news for you too! You can instantly claim two brand-new, free headgear items: the impressive Bo Sorcerer’s Crown and the classic Ming Army Helmet. It’s a fantastic incentive to jump back into the world of Wuchang and refresh your look.
An epic battle unfolds, depicted in an in-game screenshot, where a massive, imposing Chinese-inspired boss confronts a young woman wielding a sword amidst a snowy mountain landscape.
The deluxe edition expansion patch for Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is now live, bringing with it not only new content but also additional fixes and adjustments. While developer Leenzee hasn’t detailed every single change, you can dive in and discover them firsthand.
