In a significant boost for Odisha’s medical landscape, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced on Friday that the Central Government has greenlit an additional 62 postgraduate (PG) seats across six government medical colleges and hospitals for the upcoming 2025-26 academic year.

The Chief Minister hailed this approval as a “significant milestone,” emphasizing its role in fortifying both medical education and crucial healthcare infrastructure, particularly in the western regions of Odisha.

In a formal letter addressed to Union Health Minister J P Nadda, Majhi conveyed his profound appreciation:

“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to you and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for the gracious approval of 62 PG seats in six government medical colleges and hospitals in Odisha for the academic year 2025-26.”

He further elaborated on the positive repercussions, stating that “The additional PG seats will not only enhance the quality of medical teaching and learning but also dramatically improve specialized healthcare delivery for the people of the region.”

Majhi reiterated the state government’s unwavering commitment to upholding the highest standards. He assured full compliance with the guidelines set forth by the National Medical Commission, pledging all necessary support to transform these institutions into leading centers of medical excellence.

Providing further details on the allocation, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, in a post on X, outlined the distribution of these new seats: VIMSAR-Burla will receive 15 additional seats, SCB Medical College in Cuttack 3, PGIMER & Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar 6, PRM Medical College and Hospital at Baripada 20, FM Medical College and Hospital in Balasore 8, and Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in Bolangir 10.
