Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 8GB: A Sales Slump Forces Supply Reduction

It seems the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 8GB graphics card might be on its way out, according to recent information. As modern games increasingly demand more VRAM, the 8GB capacity of this more affordable RTX 5060 Ti model isn’t appealing to many buyers. This lack of interest has reportedly led Nvidia to introduce a ‘selective supply’ strategy for the card.

Our previous analyses revealed that the GPU powering the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 Ti is quite competent, and the 16GB version has indeed found a strong market. However, the 8GB variant, which notably wasn’t provided for review, appears to be significantly hindered by its limited VRAM. Repeated testing has demonstrated that graphics cards with 8GB of VRAM or less can struggle dramatically in certain demanding AAA titles, like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and this performance bottleneck is clearly deterring potential buyers.

The disinterest from gamers in purchasing these 8GB cards, despite their price point of over $350, has grown so significant that Nvidia is reportedly instructing its manufacturing partners to cut back on supply. A recent tech report from a Chinese discussion site, citing “multiple sources,” indicates that Nvidia has initiated a “precise strategy control” for the RTX 5060 Ti. This strategy will see board partners, the companies that actually produce the graphics cards from Nvidia-supplied GPUs, reduce the availability of the 8GB card.

The report further clarifies that this ‘selective supply’ directive isn’t due to manufacturing issues from Nvidia but is a direct response to weak consumer demand. Instead of overstocking retailers with cards that might not sell, Nvidia aims to balance supply with anticipated sales at the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP). It even hints that the company is “prohibiting low-price sales,” indicating a desire to prevent a surplus of heavily discounted RTX 5060 Ti 8GB cards from flooding the market.

Furthermore, the same report suggests that Nvidia plans to gradually discontinue the 8GB model. It claims that Nvidia is “controlling 8GB supply to accelerate the market migration to the 16GB version,” effectively pushing consumers toward the higher VRAM variant.

It’s important to note that Nvidia has not officially confirmed any of these details, so this information should be treated as speculation. Nevertheless, these claims align with earlier rumors from about six weeks prior, which also suggested that Nvidia was limiting the supply of both the RTX 5060 Ti 8GB and standard RTX 5060 GPUs due to similar demand issues.

This VRAM-related performance issue isn’t exclusive to Nvidia. Competing graphics cards, such as certain AMD Radeon models, have also shown significant performance drops in modern AAA titles due to insufficient VRAM. However, these AMD cards, along with the Nvidia RTX 5060, typically retail for under $300, a price point where gamers might be more forgiving of such limitations. The RTX 5060 Ti 8GB, with its higher MSRP of $379, has faced the strongest criticism because of this disparity.

Have you hesitated to purchase a new AMD or Nvidia graphics card due to concerns about limited VRAM? If you’ve encountered this issue, what decision did you make? Did you opt for a different card, or are you still waiting to upgrade? Share your experience with us!
