After a day filled with speculation and delightful confusion, Nintendo has unveiled a second animated short film. This new clip stars a baby, much like the previous one, but with an exciting twist: the mischievous and adorable Pikmin are now part of the action, moving blocks, toys, and even a pacifier around the room. However, Nintendo remains tight-lipped, not yet announcing any new video game, movie, or television show related to these shorts.
The company released this new video, titled “Close to You,” on its Nintendo Today app. It appears to be largely identical to yesterday’s mysterious animated short, with the key difference being the inclusion of the blue, yellow, and red Pikmin creatures orchestrating the harmless antics. Beyond their charming appearance, the video offers no explicit hints about a future Pikmin project.

Interestingly, earlier this year, Shigeru Miyamoto, the revered creator behind the Pikmin franchise, openly shared his ambition to develop a Pikmin movie or TV series. Miyamoto has previously contributed to creating Pikmin shorts, which are showcased on Nintendo’s official Pikmin webpage.
The Pikmin series boasts a rich history spanning nearly 25 years, beginning with the original *Pikmin* on the Nintendo GameCube in 2001. More recently, the strategy franchise delighted fans with *Pikmin 4* for the Switch in 2023. Additionally, the franchise has expanded into spin-off titles, including the mobile app *Pikmin Bloom* in 2021 and *Pikmin Finder* in 2023.
In other movie news from Nintendo, it was announced last month that the highly anticipated sequel to *The Super Mario Bros. Movie* would be titled *The Super Mario Galaxy Movie*, slated for an April 3 theater premiere. Prior to this new Pikmin-infused short, there was some speculation that the initial baby animated short might be teasing a baby Rosalina, hinting at content for the upcoming Mario movie.
