The Nintendo Switch 2 has achieved a remarkable milestone, selling over 10 million units since its launch in June, as confirmed by Nintendo in its latest financial report. Complementing this hardware success, software sales for the Switch 2 have also soared past 20 million units. In light of these impressive figures, Nintendo has revised its full-year sales forecast for the console, increasing its projection for FY 2026 by four million units to a total of 19 million units.
These significant sales figures were unveiled in Nintendo’s second-quarter FY 2026 earnings report, released on Tuesday. The report confirms that as of September 30, the Switch 2 had already moved 10.36 million units, while software sales for the burgeoning platform reached 20.62 million units.
Leading the charge in software sales is ‘Mario Kart World,’ the popular kart racing title that debuted alongside the Switch 2, selling an impressive 9.57 million units, including those bundled with the console. Another major first-party game, ‘Donkey Kong Bananza,’ also performed strongly, achieving 3.49 million units sold.
Overall, Nintendo’s video game platform business experienced a substantial boost, with sales increasing by 119.7 percent year-on-year, reaching JPY 1,066.1 billion. This significant growth is primarily attributed to the successful launch of the Switch 2.
Nintendo Significantly Boosts Switch 2 Sales Forecast
At its fiscal year 2026 halfway review, the Japanese gaming giant made notable adjustments to its financial outlook. Projected net sales for FY 2026 have been raised from JPY 1,900 billion to JPY 2,250 billion, marking an impressive 18.4 percent increase. Furthermore, the company’s full-year sales unit forecast for the Nintendo Switch 2 jumped from an initial 15 million units to a robust 19 million units. This revised prediction comfortably exceeds analyst expectations of 17.6 million devices by the fiscal year’s end in March 2026. Software sales forecasts for the Switch 2 also saw an increase of three million units, now projected to reach 48 million units.
Conversely, the annual sales forecast for the original Nintendo Switch saw a slight decrease of 0.5 million units, settling at four million units. However, its software sales forecast received a significant boost, climbing by 20 million units to a total of 125 million units.
Across its lifespan, the original Nintendo Switch has achieved monumental success, with total sales now standing at 154 million units. Software sales for the Switch 1 have also reached an astounding 1,452.79 million units.
The Nintendo Switch 2 quickly garnered attention, selling six million units within just seven weeks of its June 5 debut. Responding to this overwhelming demand, Nintendo reportedly urged its suppliers last month to accelerate production, aiming to manufacture an impressive 25 million units of the new console by the close of the fiscal year in March 2026.
