Despite some initial performance hiccups following its release, Gearbox Studios is already setting its sights on the future of Borderlands 4. The developers previously teased upcoming DLC, and now they’ve officially introduced a brand-new Vault Hunter: C4SH.
C4SH, an ex-casino dealer bot who has transformed into a drifter, is driven by the thrill of uncovering “probability-breaking highs of cursed eldritch artifacts.” This intriguing character will make their debut in the game’s first story pack DLC, which also features a fresh narrative titled Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned. While C4SH is one of two new Vault Hunters Gearbox has hinted at, the identity of the second remains a mystery.
Even Claptrap’s voice actor, Jim Foronda, got in on the excitement, sharing his humorous “head canon” about his character’s potential relationship with C4SH:
SUDDEN AND *VERY UNOFFICIAL* HEADCANON:
Claptrap mistakenly believes he pioneered pronouncing the 4 in one’s own model number as the letter A… and now he thinks C4SH is his biggest fan on Kairos. https://t.co/Oi19N6NJsn— Jim Foronda (@JimForonda) September 28, 2025
The C4SH Vault Hunter and the full first story pack DLC are slated for release in Q1 2026. Beyond this, Gearbox has outlined plans for a series of free updates, promising seasonal mini-events, challenging invincible bosses, and various other bonus content to keep players engaged.
On the immediate front, Gearbox has already rolled out a new Borderlands 4 patch to address current stability and performance concerns. The studio even suggested an unusual fix for recurring issues on the PC version. Randy Pitchford, CEO of Gearbox Studios, has publicly addressed player feedback regarding optimization, offering performance tips for both PC and console users, and confirming that a PS5 Pro patch is actively being developed.
Unfortunately, the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 port of Borderlands 4, originally scheduled for October 3, has been indefinitely delayed.
