Google asserts that Android smartphones offer superior defense against unwanted spam calls and messages compared to iPhones. This claim is supported by a comprehensive study, commissioned by Google, which assessed 33 security features across three leading Android devices and Apple’s newest iPhone model. The findings indicate that Android phones deliver a higher level of security than the iPhone 17 Pro, particularly when it comes to safeguarding users from fraud and scams.
Android Devices May Offer Enhanced Security Over iPhones
In a recent blog post, the California-based technology giant referenced several reports to reinforce its assertion that Android smartphones offer superior security and privacy compared to Apple’s iPhone lineup. Specifically, Google mentioned that Leviathan Security Group conducted a funded evaluation, scrutinizing 33 security features on the Google Pixel 10 Pro, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, iPhone 17 Pro, and Moto Razr 10+ (2025). The outcomes of this study clearly demonstrated that Android phones surpassed the iPhone in these tests.
During the testing, the Pixel 10 Pro and Galaxy Z Fold 7 operated on Android 16, while the Razr+ (2025) used Android 15 and the iPhone 17 Pro ran iOS 26.0.01. The evaluation criteria encompassed various security aspects, including the devices’ capability to enable advanced protection for user accounts, the presence and effectiveness of built-in password managers that recognize registered platforms, support for passkeys, and the robustness of their account change protection mechanisms.
Leviathan Security Group’s analysis concluded that the Google Pixel 10 Pro offered the “highest level” of default protection against scams and fraud, achieving a score of 31 points. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Razr+ (2025) followed closely with 29 points each. In comparison, Apple’s recently unveiled iPhone 17 Pro lagged behind, securing only 23.25 points in the evaluation.
The Google-sponsored report by Leviathan Security Group also emphasized that Android’s advanced features, such as call screening, scam detection, and sophisticated scam warning authentication, were key factors in these Android phones surpassing Apple’s newest flagship device.
Google further elaborated on how Android excels at protecting users from unwanted calls. The company highlighted that Google Messages intelligently filters spam by analyzing sender reputation and message content. Furthermore, Google’s integrated Phone app actively blocks known spam calls through its on-device AI capabilities.
Complementing these technical findings, a survey conducted by Google and YouGov among 5,000 individuals in India, Brazil, and the US revealed a significant user perception difference. Android users were 58 percent more likely to report receiving no scam messages in the week leading up to the study compared to iPhone users.
