Square Enix has officially announced a brand-new entry in its popular Dissidia series, titled Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy. This new game is being developed specifically for iOS and Android devices, setting its action in a contemporary Tokyo. Players can look forward to engaging in 3v3 “team boss battle arena” combat.
Classic Final Fantasy heroes such as Cloud Strife, Lightning, and the Warrior of Light are set to return, battling the forces of Chaos once again, but with a modern twist—they’ll be sporting contemporary fashion. Square Enix aims to launch the game in 2026. Interested players in the United States and Canada can sign up for a closed beta test for Android devices, with registration closing on October 28.
The Dissidia franchise has seen a quiet period since its last major PC and console release, Dissidia Final Fantasy NT, which debuted in arcades in 2015 before coming to PC and PS4 in 2018. Despite a free-to-play edition released in 2019 to revitalize interest, official support for Dissidia Final Fantasy NT concluded in 2020.
In other exciting Final Fantasy news, development is progressing on the highly anticipated final chapter of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy. Both the first two games in the saga are also confirmed to be coming to Xbox Series X|S and the upcoming Switch 2 consoles. For PlayStation 5 owners who haven’t yet experienced Remake or Rebirth, a new bundle featuring both games is available for preorder at $60, slated for a December 4 launch.
Fans of the classic PlayStation-era titles can also preorder physical Switch editions of the Final Fantasy VII & Final Fantasy VIII Remastered: Twin Pack and Final Fantasy IX, both scheduled for release on December 9.
