Netflix India recently unveiled an exciting lineup of six brand-new original films and series, specifically crafted for Tamil and Telugu audiences. This diverse slate features a mix of fresh talent and celebrated names from the South Indian film industry, including R Madhavan, Sundeep Kishan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Anand Deverakonda, Gautham Karthik, and Gulshan Devaiah.
Known for its robust collection of acclaimed Tamil and Telugu titles such as Maharaja, Lucky Baskhar, Leo, Amaran, and Devara, the streaming giant is keen on deepening its commitment to regional language content. Monika Shergill, Vice President of Content at Netflix India, shared her enthusiasm, stating, “The vibrant storytelling from this region has always been crucial to our expansion, from our earliest originals to our extensive library of post-theatrical releases. We are thrilled to introduce this next wave of original narratives, developed with both emerging and established voices from Tamil and Telugu cinema. These productions will offer a rich tapestry of genres, including intense thrillers, lighthearted comedies, poignant dramas, and cross-cultural romances, providing both depth and wide appeal. Stephen
Directed by Mithun, Stephen is a gripping Tamil psychological thriller starring Gomathi Shankar, Michael Thangadurai, and Smruthi Venkat. The story follows a psychiatrist who delves into the mind of a confessed serial killer, only to uncover a complex web of trauma, deception, and manipulation. The plot twists when the psychiatrist begins to question if the killer is a true perpetrator or merely a pawn in a much darker scheme. The film is backed by Jayakumar and Mohan of JM Production House.
Gomathi Shankar commented on his role, stating, “Stephen delves deeper than just the crime, exploring the human element behind it. My challenge was to highlight the killer’s vulnerabilities and even make him relatable, while still keeping his inherent darkness intact, avoiding any simplistic portrayals.”

Mallik Ram directs the quirky Telugu series Super Subbu, a delightful comedy of errors featuring Sundeep Kishan, Mithila Palkar, and Murali Sharma. The upcoming Tamil series #Love, directed by Balaji Mohan and produced by Soundarya Rajinikanth, stars Arjun Das and Aishwarya Lekshmi. The story ignites when Tara, a driven startup founder, crosses paths with Matthew, a suave and flamboyant investor. Tara’s dating app philosophy champions compatibility, while Matthew’s promotes chemistry. They challenge each other to finally settle the age-old debate of chemistry versus compatibility.

Made In Korea, an emotional cross-cultural film directed by Ra Karthik, stars Priyanka Mohan alongside Park Hye-Jin, renowned for her role in Squid Game. The movie tells the story of Shenba, a young woman whose dream trip to Korea is tragically shattered by betrayal. Finding herself alone in Seoul, she battles immense loneliness and navigates challenging cultural differences. As she undergoes life’s harsh lessons, Shenba discovers newfound resilience and forges enduring friendships.

Takshakudu
Actor Anand Deverakonda and Nitanshi Goel, known for her role in Laapataa Ladies, team up for the upcoming Telugu folklore thriller Takshakudu, directed by Vinod Anantoju and produced by Naga Vamsi S of Sithara Entertainments. The compelling logline reveals: “After a cursed night devastates his village, bringing ancient folklore to terrifying life, a blind tribal man embarks on a perilous journey with his loyal dog through a harsh world to confront the dark forces and the man responsible for destroying everything he held dear.”
Anand Deverakonda emphasized that Takshakudu transcends the typical action drama genre. “What truly captivated me,” Anand explained, “was how director Vinod skillfully reinterpreted ancient folklore for our modern era. Legacy, an upcoming Tamil series, features a stellar ensemble cast including R Madhavan, Nimisha Sajayan, Gautham Karthik, Gulshan Devaiah, and Abhishek Banerjee. Directed by Charukesh Sekar, the series is produced by Kalyan Shankar of Stone Bench Pvt Ltd, the production house founded by renowned filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj.
