Navi UPI, originally launched in India in August 2023, is rolling out two exciting new features: biometric authentication and a much simpler onboarding process for its users. These innovations were unveiled at the Global Fintech Festival 2025 on Tuesday. With Navi UPI’s latest update, you can now verify your transactions using your phone’s fingerprint or facial recognition, completely eliminating the need to type in a PIN. Navi UPI proudly states that this makes them the first UPI platform in India to offer biometric-based payments at such a large scale, aiming to make transactions smoother and more convenient for everyone.
Navi UPI Unveils Groundbreaking Biometric Payments
The introduction of biometric authentication and a more straightforward signup process for Indian users were undoubtedly the biggest announcements from the company on Tuesday. According to Navi UPI, these biometric-authenticated payments won’t be limited to a small test group; they will be available to all app users.
Essentially, biometric authentication on the Navi UPI app allows you to approve transactions using your unique fingerprint or facial recognition data. This means no more fumbling for your PIN!
In contrast to traditional UPI transactions that demand a PIN for every single payment, Navi App’s innovative system now lets users authorize transactions directly through their device’s built-in biometric sensors, making payments faster and more secure.
Navi UPI emphasizes that its new biometric authentication feature leverages secure, OS-native technology. All authentication takes place within your phone’s protected environment, ensuring that your personal data remains securely on your device.
This cutting-edge feature is designed to significantly reduce failed transactions, simplify the entire payment experience, and offer an extra layer of defense against common threats like phishing and social engineering attacks, as detailed in the company’s press release.
Furthermore, Navi UPI users will always have the flexibility to enable or disable biometric authentication directly within the app whenever they choose.
Beyond biometric payments, the Navi UPI app is also introducing a simplified onboarding process for new UPI accounts. This update cuts down on the number of steps required and enhances auto-verification, meaning new users can set up their accounts and start making transactions much more quickly than before.
Both the biometric authentication and simplified onboarding features for Navi UPI are being rolled out gradually to users on both Android and iOS platforms and are expected to reach everyone very soon, confirmed the company.
