MTV has officially pulled the plug on its popular and long-standing comedy clip show, ‘Ridiculousness,’ hosted by Rob Dyrdek. After an impressive 14-year run and 46 seasons, the show, which became a staple on the network, will not be producing new episodes. Sources confirmed that the cast and crew were notified this week by top network executives. While production has ceased, fans can still catch previously filmed first-run episodes, which are expected to continue airing through 2026.
The decision to cancel ‘Ridiculousness’ comes as MTV undergoes a significant restructuring phase, a move influenced by the recent Paramount–Skydance merger. This merger has already resulted in substantial layoffs across the company. According to reports, MTV is looking to cultivate a more curated selection of content that aligns with its experimental roots, featuring diverse creative voices and a refreshed programming strategy.
Launched in August 2011, ‘Ridiculousness’ was conceived and hosted by former professional skateboarder Rob Dyrdek, accompanied by co-hosts Steelo Brim and Lauren “Lolo” Wood. The show gained immense popularity for its compilation of viral internet fail clips, celebrity guest appearances, and Dyrdek’s signature comedic commentary, producing over 1,700 episodes during its tenure. In fact, reruns of the show were so prevalent in 2020 that they reportedly filled as much as 113 hours of MTV’s weekly schedule, highlighting its dominant presence and its role in MTV’s transition from music-focused content to reality and comedy programming.
Fans will still be able to enjoy existing episodes of ‘Ridiculousness,’ with reruns continuing on MTV and select seasons available for streaming on Paramount+. The cancellation marks the end of a significant era for MTV, which relied heavily on the show for over a decade to define its identity in the 2010s. As the network charts a new course, it bids farewell to the viral video format that became synonymous with its brand.
