Meta’s annual Connect event, led by CEO Mark Zuckerberg, showcased the company’s vision for the future of human-computer interaction. A strong emphasis was placed on smart glasses, which Meta sees as a seamless blend of hardware, artificial intelligence, and software. Key announcements included the innovative Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses, featuring an integrated screen, and the rugged Oakley-branded “Meta Vanguard” designed with a central camera. Additionally, Meta unveiled its second-generation Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses. Here’s a comprehensive look at all the new technology and updates revealed by Meta.
Everything Announced at Meta Connect 2025
Meta Ray-Ban Display
Meta introduced the Ray-Ban Display, its inaugural smart glasses equipped with a built-in augmented reality (AR) screen. These glasses weigh 69g, making them slightly heavier than both the Vanguard and the prior generation of Ray-Ban Meta glasses. The 600×600 pixel display is discreetly positioned at the bottom of the right lens, providing a 20-degree field of view and an impressive 5,000 nits of brightness, all while maintaining minimal light leakage at just 2 percent. The display operates at a smooth 90Hz for general use, shifting to 30Hz during streaming.
Sporting classic Wayfarer frames, these glasses feature transition lenses and support prescriptions ranging from -4.00 to +4.00. They include a 12-megapixel camera with 3X zoom, capturing high-resolution 3024×4032 pixel photos and 1080p video at 30 frames per second. With 32GB of internal storage, users can store approximately 1,000 images and 100 short video clips.
Complementing the glasses is the Meta Neural Band, an sEMG wristband designed to interpret subtle wrist and finger movements for on-screen control. Constructed from resilient Vectran, it boasts an 18-hour battery life and IPX7 splash resistance. Future software enhancements are expected to introduce full-text input capabilities. The glasses themselves support visual Meta AI interactions, text messaging, video calls via popular platforms, navigation assistance, real-time translation, captioning, and function as a live camera viewfinder.
The Meta Ray-Ban Display, bundled with the Neural Band, is priced at $799 (approximately Rs. 70,100). It is slated for release in the US on September 30, with a broader global rollout planned for 2026.
Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2
The second-generation Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses feature significant enhancements while retaining their iconic design. Users can choose from three distinct frame styles — Wayfarer, Skyler, and Headliner — available in a wide array of 27 frame, color, and lens combinations, offering more personalization than their predecessors.
Audio quality sees a notable improvement, thanks to more powerful open-ear speakers and a five-microphone array that actively minimizes background noise, leading to clearer calls and more effective Meta AI interactions. The most impressive upgrade is battery life; the Gen 2 glasses are now rated for up to eight hours on a single charge, effectively doubling the runtime of the first generation. The accompanying charging case extends usage by an additional 48 hours and can rapidly charge the glasses to 50 percent capacity in just 20 minutes.
The camera system has been enhanced to record 3K video at 30 frames per second for up to three minutes, or 30-second clips at 60 frames per second, while maintaining a sharp 3024×4032 pixel photo resolution. Future software updates will introduce slow motion and hyperlapse video capabilities. Software-wise, “Conversation Focus” is a new feature that isolates and amplifies voices in loud environments, and live translation has expanded to include German and Portuguese, with offline support for all six languages anticipated through downloadable language packs.
Pricing for the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 glasses begins at $379 (approximately Rs. 33,300). Variants with polarized lenses are priced at $409 (roughly Rs. 36,000), and those with transition lenses retail for $459 (roughly Rs. 40,400). Meta plans to introduce these glasses in India and Mexico later this year.
Oakley Meta Vanguard
Meta further expanded its smart glasses lineup with the Oakley Meta Vanguard, marketed as “Performance AI glasses.” These are specifically engineered for athletes and high-intensity activities, boasting a lightweight 66g build. They feature a wraparound design, offering IP67 dust and splash resistance, and integrate Oakley’s renowned Prizm Lens technology for superior protection against sun, wind, and dust.
Equipped with a 12-megapixel camera, strategically positioned above the nose piece, these glasses provide a wide 122-degree field of view for immersive first-person recordings. Users can capture 1080p videos at 30 frames per second for up to five minutes, or 60 frames per second for three minutes. It also supports 3K video recording at 30 frames per second for three minutes. Additional features include slow-motion and hyperlapse modes. For personalized comfort, the nose piece is replaceable.
Similar to the Ray-Ban Meta glasses, the Vanguard incorporates open-ear speakers and a five-microphone array, enhanced with wind noise reduction to guarantee crystal-clear AI interactions and calls, even in winds up to 30 mph. New control options feature a dedicated Action button for various camera modes and a secondary button that users can customize. Connectivity is managed through Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi, with 32GB of internal storage provided.
Through a collaboration with Garmin, these glasses can pair with Garmin smartwatches to provide comprehensive workout and health insights. Battery performance is robust, offering nine hours of typical use or six hours of continuous music playback, further extended by an additional 36 hours via the charging case.
The Oakley Meta Vanguard is priced at $499 (approximately Rs. 43,850) and is set to launch on October 21 in select markets, with availability expanding to India and other regions later this year.
