Mercedes-Benz India has officially unveiled the robust G450d SUV, significantly enhancing the G-Class portfolio in the country. For the first time, Indian consumers can choose from all-electric, petrol, and diesel variants of the iconic G-Class. Priced at an ex-showroom Rs 2.9 crores (before options), this powerful SUV is imported as a Completely Built Unit (CBU). Enthusiasts should note that the initial release of this G-Class diesel model is strictly limited to just 50 units, so those interested are encouraged to contact their nearest dealership promptly for availability and booking details.

Under the hood, the new G 450d boasts a substantial performance upgrade over its predecessors, the G 350d and G 400d. It features a formidable 3.0-litre, six-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, which now churns out an impressive 367hp—a 37hp increase over the G 400d—and a massive 750Nm of torque, adding an extra 50 Nm to its pulling power.

Striking Design & Modern Refinements

While preserving the timeless and revered silhouette of the G 400d, the G 450d introduces several thoughtful visual and functional enhancements. The front fascia now sports a distinctive grille with four elegant chrome-finished horizontal slats, complemented by brand-new 20-inch AMG alloy wheels. Subtle revisions to the front and rear bumpers complete the look, contributing to a fresher and more refined aesthetic.

Luxurious Interior & Cutting-Edge Technology

Step inside, and the G 450d welcomes you with a familiar yet advanced cabin. It maintains the elegant interior layout, featuring twin 12.3-inch display screens that serve as the digital instrument cluster and the infotainment hub. Both are seamlessly powered by Mercedes-Benz’s latest MBUX NTG7 interface. Drivers will appreciate innovations like augmented reality navigation and a “transparent bonnet” view, which offers an invaluable perspective during challenging off-road excursions.

Premium appointments abound, including sumptuously soft Nappa leather upholstery, customizable ambient lighting to set the mood, and an immersive 760-watt, 18-speaker Burmester audio system with Dolby Atmos support for an unparalleled listening experience. For enhanced safety and convenience, the G 450d is outfitted with a comprehensive Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems) package as standard, featuring active brake assist, lane-keeping assist, and a 360-degree surround camera system.

Potent Powertrain & Unmatched Off-Road Capability

The heart of the new Mercedes-Benz G 450d is its refined 3.0-litre, six-cylinder turbo-diesel engine. This powerhouse delivers an impressive 367hp—a significant 37hp leap over the G 400d—and a robust 750Nm of torque, an increase of 50 Nm. For an extra surge of power when needed, the engine is seamlessly integrated with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, providing an additional 20hp boost. Power is efficiently managed by a smooth 9-speed automatic transmission, which channels drive to all four wheels, ensuring exceptional traction.

Performance figures are equally compelling: Mercedes-Benz states the G 450d can accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in just 5.8 seconds, with its top speed electronically limited to 210 kph. Beyond the asphalt, this SUV truly shines with 241mm of ground clearance between its axles and an impressive water wading capability of up to 700mm. Its off-road prowess is further highlighted by approach, breakover, and departure angles rated at 31°, 26°, and 30° respectively. Even on steep side inclines, the G 450d maintains its composure, staying stable at up to 35°.

Santosh Iyer, MD & CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, with the new G450d

A Statement from Mercedes-Benz India

During the launch, Santosh Iyer, Managing Director and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, expressed his enthusiasm: “The introduction of the new G 450d reaffirms our dedication to providing a full spectrum of powertrains—diesel, petrol, and electric—for the G-Class in India, a first for this legendary automotive nameplate. The G 450d, with its powerful and highly efficient diesel engine, perfectly blends performance with efficiency, meeting the continued strong demand for a diesel variant of the G-Class. This strategic addition ensures that Mercedes-Benz now offers a ‘G-Class’ to suit every customer’s preference in India, further solidifying the iconic SUV’s practicality, desirability, and cult status.”
