Struggling with “The Brain Benders of Auntie’s Choice” quest in The Outer Worlds 2? Upon reaching Eden, your primary goal is to infiltrate the Vox Relay and track down De Vries. To smooth your path to the base, tackling a few side quests, including this one, is highly recommended.
Early in your Outer Worlds 2 journey, you’ll encounter Minister Milverstreet in Fairfield. He offers his aid in gaining access to the Vox Relay, but only if you can convince Vigilant Hogarth and the residents of Westport to relocate to Fairfield. Before you dive into this quest, remember that specific skills and traits will be essential for success.
Completing The Brain Benders of Auntie’s Choice Quest: A Detailed Walkthrough
This quest offers two main approaches to persuade Vigilant Hogarth to evacuate Westport for Fairfield: either cripple Westport’s essential infrastructure by sabotaging three key systems or individually convince three residents to leave. One of these individuals, Charlton Weintraut, is also crucial for another quest, “For Whom the Bridge Tolls,” which involves gaining entry to the Vox Relay.
From our experience, the most straightforward method is to sabotage Westport, thereby compelling Hogarth to relocate. While attempting to persuade individual residents, they all stated they would only move with Hogarth’s approval, making the sabotage route far less complicated.
How to Disrupt Westport’s Water Supply
Your first target for sabotage is Westport’s water supply. Exit the main courtyard and follow the path along the coast to the right, moving away from the town center. You’ll soon encounter a guarded area protected by two hostile robots.
You have a choice: either stealthily bypass them or engage in combat. If you choose to fight, electrical weapons are highly effective due to their vulnerability. At the rear of this guarded zone, you’ll find a pump. To sabotage it, you have two options:
- Introduce Skin Powder into the purifier.
- Utilize your Engineering skill (requires level two).
Before you depart, don’t forget to collect the Anthony Rodgers Tossball Card located in a box beside the water pump!
How to Disable Westport’s Broadcast Facility
Next on your sabotage list is the town’s radio system. Look for a keycard to the radio room on a table on the balcony where Hogarth is located. Once you have it, return to the courtyard through the main building’s front entrance.
The radio room is in the far-right corner from your position. Simply proceed there and use the keycard to unlock the door. Inside, interact with the terminal and activate the “Auntie’s Choice Automated Propagandizer” to alter the broadcasts playing throughout Westport.
Locating and Sabotaging the Westport Generator Room
The final critical system to disrupt is the town’s generator. While its location is fairly obvious, gaining access can be tricky. If you’re facing the main building, the generator room is situated on the raised section to the right, behind some residential structures at the back.
The door is locked and requires a keycard. To find it, you’ll need to circle to the other side of the building. Look for a stack of boxes that you can climb to reach the generator room’s roof. Jump down through the hole in the roof to enter the building. Once inside, interact with the generator. You’ll have two options for sabotage:
- Employ your Explosives skill (requires level two).
- Use a Portable Galvanic Subverter.
Persuading Vigilant Hogarth to Abandon Westport
With Westport’s three crucial systems compromised, return to Hogarth in the main building and inform him of the situation. You’ll then be able to persuade him to move to Fairfield and instruct all residents to evacuate. During your conversation, ensure you select the following three dialogue choices. Your other responses won’t affect the outcome:
- “I… hate to rain on the mood, but Westport’s finished. You all need to move to Fairfield.”
- “Dying is one thing, but without a generator, your mechs can’t be recharged. Fixed or not.” (Requires Speech 2 skill)
- “Well, have fun listening to those loudspeakers. Day after day after day. By yourself.”
After these exchanges, Hogarth will agree to relocate to Fairfield and grant permission for other convinced residents to do the same. Head to Fairfield yourself and speak with Minister Milverstreet to officially complete this quest.
However, Milverstreet won’t directly help you infiltrate the Vox Relay. For that, you’ll need to speak with Hogarth again. He’ll offer further assistance in exchange for completing another side quest, ‘The Saga of Malfunctioning Mechanicals.’ It’s generally best to finish this quest before Hogarth leaves for Fairfield.
Once both quests are concluded, you can proceed with the final stage of “For Whom The Bridge Tolls.” For more help on your journey, consult a complete quests list for the game.
