Ever wonder how to gain that elusive double jump capability in The Outer Worlds 2? While typically a staple in platformers, this incredibly useful ability could easily slip by you if you’re not actively seeking it out through a specific side quest.
This handy maneuver lets you access previously unreachable areas on whatever alien world you’re exploring in The Outer Worlds 2. You won’t find it listed in your character skills or as a special trait, but it’s an upgrade every adventurer should aim to acquire early on.
Unlocking the Double Jump in The Outer Worlds 2
Here’s the exciting revelation: the double jump isn’t a skill you learn, but rather a special pair of boots you discover during a side mission! These extraordinary boots are known as P.A.L.E.
If you stick strictly to the main storyline, you might completely miss these game-changing boots. To find them, you’ll need to embark on the “For Whom The Bridge Tolls” side quest, which eventually leads you to seek access to the Vox Relay.
During this quest, you’ll learn that a character named Ida Rutledge is hiding within the Spire Grove, located in the southwest region of the very first planet you get to explore. (You can refer to the images below for visual guidance on the boots and their location.)

Once you make your way to the top of the hill (either by taking an elevator or by climbing), you’ll witness a body plummeting from a platform above. Shortly after, you’ll encounter new non-player characters and be given another side quest titled “A Final Death For Gravity.”
By looting the fallen body, you’ll be able to claim the P.A.L.E. boots for yourself. No need to equip them; simply press the jump button a second time whenever you wish to execute a double jump and reach those tricky spots.
