Monday saw widespread chaos across the digital landscape as hundreds of websites and applications, including many beloved gaming and entertainment services, experienced significant outages and service interruptions.
The popular internet outage tracker, DownDetector, quickly became a hub for reports, indicating issues affecting a vast array of prominent platforms like Amazon, Venmo, Hulu, McDonald’s, and the cryptocurrency exchange, Coinbase, among many others.
The precise nature of the problem initially remained a mystery. However, several affected companies, notably the cryptocurrency giant Coinbase, publicly attributed their downtime to a critical issue within Amazon Web Services (AWS), a colossal provider of cloud computing infrastructure. At the time, Amazon Web Services had not yet issued a statement regarding the incident.
Coinbase, for instance, informed its users via X (formerly Twitter) that many were unable to access their services due to the AWS outage, assuring them that “Our team is working on the issue and we’ll provide updates here. All funds are safe.”
Please note: This is an evolving situation, and we will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
