On Monday, Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced that it was grappling with significant operational issues within its cloud services. This disruption led to hundreds of websites and applications, including those vital for gaming and entertainment, reporting widespread outages and service interruptions.
In an official statement, Amazon confirmed that its engineers are actively working to mitigate the impact and pinpoint the root cause of the problem, noting that 28 of its services were affected.
According to DownDetector, a platform that monitors internet outages, dozens of prominent online services, such as Amazon’s own platforms, Venmo, Hulu, McDonald’s, and Coinbase, experienced disruptions.
Several companies confirmed that AWS was indeed the source of their problems. Coinbase, a leading cryptocurrency exchange, stated publicly that the issue stemmed from the Amazon Web Services outage, though AWS itself offered no immediate further comment.
Coinbase reassured its users on X (formerly Twitter): “We’re aware many users are currently unable to access Coinbase due to an AWS outage. Our team is working on the issue and we’ll provide updates here. All funds are safe.”
