British police have officially released the names of the two men who tragically lost their lives in a terrorist attack at a synagogue in England on Friday. They are Adrian Daulby, 53, and Melvin Cravitz, 66.
Mr. Daulby and Mr. Cravitz were victims of the heinous act, which occurred on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar. The assailant reportedly rammed his car into people outside the Heaton Park Congregation synagogue before embarking on a violent stabbing spree. Three additional individuals were injured in the attack and are currently receiving hospital care.
This incident has intensified existing concerns about the safety of Jewish communities worldwide, amidst a troubling surge in antisemitism. British authorities quickly classified the event as an act of terrorism. Counterterrorism police later confirmed the perpetrator’s identity as Jihad al-Shamie, a 35-year-old British citizen of Syrian descent.
In a public statement issued Friday morning, Greater Manchester Police confirmed that the families of both victims have been notified and are being provided with support from specialized officers.
Detective Chief Superintendent Lewis Hughes, who is overseeing the casualty response for the police, expressed his sorrow, stating, “My deepest sympathies are with Mr. Daulby and Mr. Cravitz’s loved ones at this extremely hard time.”
