A man from Taiwan has taken legal action against his wife’s lover, demanding approximately ₹1 crore (800,000 yuan) in compensation. The husband discovered the affair after finding incriminating messages on his wife’s phone, which revealed a relationship that had been ongoing since 2022 between his wife, Jie, and her colleague, Yong.
The affair, which involved frequent hotel visits and intimate communication, including the couple referring to each other as husband and wife, was uncovered by the husband, Wei, in November 2023. Wei’s lawsuit aimed to address the emotional distress and violation of his marital rights caused by the affair.
During the court proceedings, the wife’s lover, Yong, claimed ignorance of Jie’s marital status. However, the court found Yong liable for knowingly interfering in the marriage, thereby infringing upon Wei’s rights as a spouse. Given Yong’s higher income compared to Wei, the judge ordered Yong to pay ₹37 lakh (300,000 yuan) in damages. Yong retains the right to appeal this decision.
