In a major disciplinary action, the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has annulled the NEET PG results of 22 candidates. This decisive move comes after allegations of unfair practices in examinations conducted between 2021 and 2025, with 13 of these disqualifications specifically from the NEET PG 2025 session, as detailed in an official notification. The NBEMS has declared the scorecards and results for all 22 individuals to be null and void. The board’s notice unequivocally states that “presenting the aforementioned scorecard and/or result of NEET-PG for the relevant session, for any purpose including, but not limited to, employment, enrollment, registration, or admission to postgraduate courses, will be deemed unlawful.”Furthermore, the NBEMS clarified that it bears no responsibility or liability for any admissions, employment opportunities, or registrations secured through the use of these invalidated results. Their statement explicitly absolves them of consequences stemming from the cancelled NEET PG outcomes.
Disciplinary Action Covers Five Examination Years
Of the 22 candidates whose results were invalidated, 13 appeared in NEET PG 2025, three in 2024, four in 2023, and one each in 2022 and 2021. The board’s Examination Ethics Committee took the decision after a detailed inquiry into malpractice incidents reported across multiple sessions. While one candidate, Srusti Bommanahalli Rajanna, was disqualified following a ruling by the Karnataka High Court (Writ Petition No. 5785/2025), the other 21 candidates were found guilty of employing unfair means by the NBEMS ethics committee.
Scrutiny on Exam Transparency and Pending Counselling
The recent NEET PG examination attracted over 2.42 lakh aspirants, with 1,28,116 successfully qualifying for admission to various Doctor of Medicine (MD), Master of Surgery (MS), and PG Diploma programs. Despite this, the NEET PG 2025 counselling schedule remains unreleased, as the examination faces ongoing legal challenges regarding its transparency and a petition demanding the disclosure of all question papers and answer keys.
FMGE Candidates Also Face Disqualification
In addition to the NEET PG candidates, the NBEMS has also revoked the candidatures of 11 students who sat for the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) between 2021 and 2025. These individuals were likewise found to have engaged in unfair practices during their respective exams. The FMGE, a crucial examination enabling foreign-trained medical graduates to practice in India, experienced a significant drop in its pass percentage this year. The June 2025 session saw a pass rate of merely 18.61%, marking a nearly 11% decrease compared to the previous year. Out of 37,207 registered candidates, only 6,707 successfully cleared the exam. The NBEMS has firmly reaffirmed its dedication to upholding the integrity of all medical entrance and licensure examinations. The board issued a stern warning that stringent measures will continue to be enforced against any candidate found attempting to compromise the fairness of the assessment process.
