Major School Holidays Announced Across Key Indian States: Here’s the Breakdown

Schools are closed in these states from today: Here’s why

School Holidays Ahead: As the festive season approaches and crucial administrative tasks continue, schools across several Indian states are announcing holiday breaks. Students and educators in Karnataka, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar will enjoy time off this month, whether for festive celebrations or to assist with important official surveys.

Karnataka: Extended Break for Caste Survey

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has declared that schools will be closed from October 8 to October 18, 2025. This extended break is to enable teachers participating in the state’s social and educational survey, widely known as the ‘caste survey,’ to finalize their responsibilities. The survey, originally planned to conclude on October 7, experienced delays in several districts. Official reports indicate that Koppal district has completed 97% of the survey, while Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts are trailing with 63% and 60% completion, respectively. Teachers involved in mid-term examinations are exempted from these survey duties.

Rajasthan: Celebrating with Diwali Holidays

The Education Department in Rajasthan has announced that schools will observe Diwali holidays from October 13 to October 24, 2025. This generous 12-day break begins today, providing students and teachers ample time to immerse themselves in the festive spirit.

Uttar Pradesh: A Shorter Diwali Getaway

In contrast to Karnataka and Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh will kick off its Diwali break slightly later. Schools will be closed from October 20 to October 23, 2025, granting students a five-day period to enjoy the Festival of Lights with their loved ones.

Bihar: Extended Holidays for Diwali and Chhath Puja

Schools in Bihar will commence their holiday period from October 18, 2025. This extended break is designed to cover both Diwali festivities and the preparations for the significant Chhath Puja festival, ensuring students can fully engage in these important cultural events and rituals.

These breaks provide a fantastic opportunity for students to not only enjoy the rich cultural celebrations with their families but also to catch up on their studies, revise lessons, or get a head start on preparing for upcoming examinations.
