On Monday, Amazon Web Services (AWS) confirmed it was grappling with significant operational issues across its cloud services. This disruption immediately triggered widespread outages and service interruptions for a multitude of online platforms, encompassing popular gaming services, entertainment apps, and numerous other websites.
In response, Amazon’s engineering teams swiftly mobilized to mitigate the impact and pinpoint the root cause of the problem. The company disclosed that at least 28 of its critical services were experiencing difficulties.
Reports quickly flooded in from users experiencing trouble accessing their favorite online destinations. Internet outage tracker DownDetector highlighted major sites affected, including Amazon itself, digital payment service Venmo, streaming giant Hulu, fast-food chain McDonald’s, and the cryptocurrency platform Coinbase, among many others.
Several companies confirmed that the disruption stemmed from the AWS issues. Coinbase, for instance, explicitly stated the problem was with Amazon Web Services, assuring its users, “We’re aware many users are currently unable to access Coinbase due to an AWS outage. Our team is working on the issue and we’ll provide updates here. All funds are safe.” At the time, Amazon Web Services had not yet issued a specific public comment on the matter.
This remains a developing situation, and further updates will be provided as they become available.
