A 32-year-old Indian man was taken into custody at Sri Lanka’s Bandaranaike International Airport on Sunday, October 27, 2025, after being found in possession of over two kilograms of heroin. The arrest follows a significant operation by the Narcotics Control Division.
Officials recovered 2.8 kilograms of heroin from the Indian national as he arrived from Kuala Lumpur. The street value of the confiscated drugs is estimated to be around 34 million Sri Lankan rupees, which translates to approximately 9.9 million Indian rupees, according to reports from local news portal Ada Derana.
Further inquiries by investigators revealed that the unnamed Indian suspect allegedly intended to deliver the large quantity of heroin to a local drug dealer in Bambalapitiya, a bustling coastal area within Sri Lanka’s capital city, Colombo.
Following the apprehension, the suspect and the illicit contraband were transferred to the Airport Police Narcotics Bureau. He is scheduled to appear before the Negombo Magistrate’s Court later today, Monday, for legal proceedings.
