French President Emmanuel Macron made a striking statement on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, asserting that if former U.S. President Donald Trump genuinely seeks the Nobel Peace Prize, his immediate focus must be on bringing an end to the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
During an interview with France’s BFM TV from New York, Macron emphasized that only the U.S. President possesses the necessary influence to pressure Israel into halting the war. He stated unequivocally, “There is one person who can do something about it, and that is the U.S. president.”
Macron clarified his position, explaining that France lacks the leverage of the United States. He noted, “The reason he can do more than us is because we do not supply the weapons that enable the war in Gaza to be waged. We do not provide the equipment that allows war to be waged in Gaza. The United States of America does.”
Earlier the same day, former President Trump delivered a contentious and extensive speech at the United Nations General Assembly. In his address, he dismissed calls from Western allies to endorse a Palestinian state, arguing that such a move would effectively reward Hamas militants.
Paradoxically, Trump himself declared, “We have to stop the war in Gaza immediately. We have to immediately negotiate peace.”
Reflecting on Trump’s speech, Macron observed, “I see an American president who is involved, who reiterated this morning from the podium, ‘I want peace. I have resolved seven conflicts,’ and who desires the Nobel Peace Prize. However, the Nobel Peace Prize is only achievable if this conflict is brought to an end.”
It’s worth noting that several nations, including Cambodia, Israel, and Pakistan, have previously nominated Trump for the prestigious annual award in recognition of his efforts in brokering peace agreements or ceasefires.
Trump himself has openly expressed his belief that he is deserving of the esteemed Norwegian prize, an honor previously bestowed upon four of his predecessors in the White House.
White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly defended Trump’s record, stating, “President Trump has done more for peace than everyone present at the United Nations combined.” She added, “Only this president could have achieved so much for global stability because he has effectively made America strong again.”
