Get ready for a heartwarming blend of manga magic and local heritage! Legendary artist Rumiko Takahashi, the brilliant mind behind beloved series like Urusei Yatsura, is bringing her electrifying heroine, Lum, back to her roots in a special collaboration with Niigata’s long-standing food store, Kashimaya.
Niigata Kashimaya, a local institution with an impressive 170-year history, found an unexpected kindred spirit in Lum. They believe their dedication to craftsmanship mirrors Lum’s own unwavering spirit, an admirable trait that inspired this unique partnership.
This delightful alliance has resulted in stunning new artwork personally penned by Takahashi, depicting Lum adorned in a traditional happi coat, proudly carrying a Kashimaya shopping bag. It’s a wonderful fusion of classic charm and modern appeal, celebrating both the character and the local brand.
The collaboration extends beyond just art, offering an array of exclusive goods. Fans can look forward to a special box set featuring Kashimaya’s renowned salmon chazuke and pickled salmon roe, presented in a unique box alongside an eco-friendly bag showcasing artwork of Ten, another beloved character from the series. Additionally, two distinct clear files and a stylish black eco bag, emblazoned with the collaboration’s key visual, will be available for collectors and fans.
Mark your calendars! This exciting collaboration officially kicks off on October 15th.
For those new to the series, Urusei Yatsura introduces us to a world where aliens invade Earth, and the fate of the planet rests on the shoulders of the notoriously lecherous high school student, Ataru Moroboshi. His mission? To play a game of tag and capture the beautiful, tiger-stripe bikini-clad alien princess, Lum, by her horns. But Lum’s ability to fly and deliver electric shocks makes it anything but simple. Once caught, Ataru gets another jolt – he’s now Lum’s ‘darling’ and she’s not leaving anytime soon!
