The latter half of 2025 is brimming with exciting releases for the Nintendo Switch and its successor, the Switch 2. Among the most eagerly awaited titles are Kirby Air Riders, set for November 20, and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, arriving on December 4. Beyond the games themselves, fans can look forward to new official merchandise and Amiibo figures. Adding to the excitement, PowerA has just released two new wireless controller variants, themed after Metroid and Kirby. These controllers are fully compatible with both the original Switch and Switch 2, offering a premium alternative to the standard Switch Pro Controller. Priced at $70 each, these PowerA controllers launched on August 27, making them an excellent way for fans to gear up with exclusive Metroid or Kirby gear ahead of the new game and Amiibo launches.
Both the Metroid and Kirby Edition PowerA Nintendo Switch Enhanced Wireless Controllers come with identical impressive specifications. They feature two customizable back buttons, up to 30 hours of battery life, and integrated gyro motion controls. Connectivity is versatile, supporting Bluetooth for wireless play with the Switch, Switch 2, and PC, or a wired connection via the included USB-C charging cable. While these controllers function across all three platforms, they are primarily optimized for the original Nintendo Switch. This means they do not include the Switch 2’s “C” button and cannot wake the Switch 2 from sleep mode. Additionally, like many third-party options, they forgo HD rumble and Amiibo compatibility. Despite these minor limitations, their design closely mirrors Nintendo’s own Pro Controller, offering a familiar button layout, all wrapped in striking, unique game-themed aesthetics.
The Metroid Edition controller boasts a captivating blue and turquoise color scheme, directly inspired by the game’s universe. It prominently displays a large illustration of Samus across its front, complemented by her distinctive emblem on the left grip.
Similarly, the Kirby Edition PowerA Nintendo Switch Enhanced Wireless Controller delivers the same core features and comfortable design as its Metroid counterpart. Its unique aesthetic showcases a vibrant collage of Kirby, Waddle-Dee, King Dedede, and Meta Knight, along with a larger Kirby illustration and logo on the right grip. This edition further stands out with its colorful thumbstick bases and shoulder buttons.
To complete your Metroid setup, consider the matching PowerA Wired Earbuds, available for just $25. Their blue and black design perfectly complements the Metroid controller. For those who appreciate the controllers’ functionality but prefer different aesthetics, the Mario Pop variant offers an identical experience with a lively Mario design, currently available for $36 (originally $60).
Beyond PowerA, the Turtle Beach lineup offers additional Pro Controller alternatives. These are essentially rebranded PDP controllers, now featuring various Mario and Donkey Kong inspired designs. The Turtle Beach Rematch Wireless Controller (Mario Bricks), launching October 12, boasts a captivating lenticular design that shifts with viewing angle. It also includes motion controls and remappable back buttons, providing a strong alternative. A Donkey Kong-themed Rematch Wireless controller, with similar lenticular black and green artwork, will also be available on the same day. Currently, the Invincible Mario and Super Mario Star editions are already on the market, offering more choices for gamers.
