Actor and choreographer Lauren Gottlieb recently tied the knot with her long-time partner, videographer Tobias Jones, in a picturesque Italian ceremony. Despite embarking on married life, Lauren has quickly returned to her busy professional schedule. Currently featured in the Punjabi track ‘Sajri’ alongside Gurdeep Mehendi, Lauren asserts that her marital status has no bearing on her career, which is fundamentally based on her skills.
Addressing the lingering stereotypes faced by female artists upon marriage, Lauren expressed optimism about the industry’s changing attitudes. “I believe it might have been that way many years ago, but we’ve seen so many actors and actresses getting married and even having children in recent times,” she noted. “I feel like the sentiments have changed completely. This indeed is very great and really exciting.”
The actress, known for her roles in films like ‘ABCD: Any Body Can Dance’ and ‘ABCD 2’, further elaborated on her personal experience. “I’ve never really faced any of those stereotypical things because I think the world that I come from, with the type of training that I have, is such that people usually bring me into a project for my skill set. It’s like they believe that, ‘We need this level of training that maybe isn’t here (in India)’.” For Lauren, her skills have consistently been an asset rather than a hindrance.
However, she did confess to having been part of projects in the past where she wasn’t entirely convinced. “Yes, this has happened. I think things are getting a bit better now, but there are still many projects,” she admitted. “Sometimes, some projects in the past haven’t aligned creatively for me, and it is like the hardest thing in my soul. I remember my team telling me, ‘OK, just let it go, just do it and move on.’ But I am not that way. I want everything that I do to be something that I can watch 10 years down the road and still stand by.” She added, “There were many times where I thought, ‘Maybe people aren’t looking at this critically.’ I’m just really lucky that people are bringing me into other conversations, whether it’s the creative side of it, the marketing side of it, or the editing side of it.”
