A Royal Welcome, Or Not?
Former President Trump’s recent state visit to the United Kingdom, which included a regal carriage procession at Windsor Castle and a lavish royal banquet, provided ample comedic fodder for late-night hosts. Stephen Colbert, for one, expressed mock relief at the temporary absence of Trump from U.S. headlines, joking that the former president would be ‘bangin’ their mash’ for a few days.

Stephen Colbert offered a comedic guide to royal etiquette, noting that while one would address King Charles or Queen Camilla as ‘Your Majesty,’ and Prince William and Princess Catherine as ‘Your Royal Highness,’ a hypothetical encounter between Trump and Prince Andrew would require a different approach. Colbert, impersonating Trump, suggested the line: ‘We never met, remember? I have no idea who you are. Ixnay.’
Desi Lydic chimed in, humorously describing the U.K. as Trump’s ‘happy place’ – a realm ‘where the king is in charge and vegetables are illegal.’
Jimmy Fallon also got in on the royal jokes, imagining a post-dinner meeting with Harry Potter to ‘make the Epstein files disappear’ and King Charles’s strategy of serving British food to encourage Trump’s departure. Fallon further imitated Trump’s dinner thank-yous, which included a mix of royal titles and celebrity names.
Stephen Colbert continued the royal commentary by noting Trump’s preference for his own American-shipped bed sheets, musing, ‘I’ve always suspected that Trump sheets his own bed.’
The Kimmel Controversy
Wednesday evening brought news that ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ had been ‘indefinitely’ pulled from ABC’s schedule. This development followed comments Kimmel made regarding the individual involved in the Charlie Kirk shooting. On his Fox News program, Greg Gutfeld sharply criticized Kimmel, labeling him a ‘clown’ for allegedly ‘ignoring reality’ and attributing blame to the MAGA movement for Kirk’s murder.
In a particularly strong statement, Gutfeld asserted that if Kimmel ‘was any more full of [expletive], he’d be a colostomy bag.’
Gutfeld continued, arguing that Kimmel’s inability to retract his statements stemmed from a deeper issue: ‘to admit he was wrong on this calls into question his entire filter for interpreting reality.’ He suggested that Kimmel chose to ‘live in denial,’ confident that ‘like-minded media won’t press you on it.’ Gutfeld then directly appealed to Disney shareholders, proposing it might be ‘time to thaw out Walt to put things right.’
Spirit Airlines: The Ultimate Punchline
Jimmy Fallon brought up a humorous incident involving a Spirit Airlines plane getting too close to Air Force One during Trump’s flight to the U.K. An air traffic controller reportedly instructed the Spirit pilot to ‘pay attention and get off the iPad,’ which Fallon joked was ‘the same thing staffers said to Trump during tonight’s dinner.’ Desi Lydic followed up with a sarcastic jab: ‘Get off the iPad? It’s Spirit Airlines. How’s the pilot going to Google ‘how to fly a plane?’”
Seth Meyers weighed in on a Wall Street Journal report about toxic fumes in airplanes, quipping, ‘Though if you’re flying Spirit, they’re happy to crack a window.’
