On September 23, 2025, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan officially launched the groundbreaking Viksit Bharat Buildathon 2025. This nationwide initiative is designed to ignite innovation, creativity, and problem-solving skills among school students across India. Spearheaded by the Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL) within the Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog, and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), the event is projected to attract more than one crore students from 1.5 lakh schools.
During the launch ceremony, Minister Pradhan unveiled the Buildathon’s official logo and an inspiring jingle. He emphasized that the initiative aims to “celebrate student innovations, engineer an innovation renaissance in the country, and ensure that the young generations become key drivers of Samriddhi, Viksit, and Atmanirbhar Bharat.”
Viksit Bharat Buildathon 2025: Focus Themes
The Buildathon is structured around four core themes:
- Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India)
- Swadeshi (Indigenous)
- Vocal for Local
- Samriddh Bharat (Prosperous India)
The program’s objectives include inspiring creative thinking for national development, promoting self-reliance and sustainable growth, encouraging synchronized innovation across schools, and ultimately projecting India as a global innovation hub, potentially setting a new world record.

How to register:
- Visit the official portal for the Buildathon.
- Complete all necessary student and school details on the platform.
- Submit your initial idea or project concept.
Here are the important dates for the Buildathon:
- Preparation period: October 6 to October 13, 2025, during which teachers will mentor student teams through the registration and submission process.
- Live synchronized innovation event: October 13, 2025.
- Final submission window: October 13 to October 31, 2025.
- Evaluation period: November 1 to December 31, 2025, with submissions reviewed by a panel of expert judges.
- Result and felicitation: January 2026, where the top 1,000 winning teams will be announced and honored.
Call for Students
This Buildathon builds upon the resounding success of the School Innovation Marathon 2024, which previously led to impactful initiatives such as the Student Innovator Programme (SIP), Student Entrepreneurship Programme (SEP), numerous patents, and several startup ventures originating from Atal Tinkering Labs, according to officials.
School Education Secretary Sanjay Kumar highlighted that the event serves as a platform bringing together students, educators, and innovators, all working collectively to develop solutions for a self-reliant India, directly aligning with the ambitious vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
