Karwa Chauth 2025 is set to be celebrated on Friday, October 10th. This deeply cherished festival is a time when married women across India and worldwide observe a day-long fast, praying for their husbands’ longevity, prosperity, and happiness. It’s a beautiful celebration of patience, unwavering faith, and the profound emotional strength found in marriage.

This year, Karwa Chauth is blessed with particularly auspicious planetary alignments. Below, you’ll find all the essential details about Karwa Chauth 2025, including the date, important puja timings, city-wise moonrise schedules, and the meaningful rituals observed.

When is Karwa Chauth 2025?

The festival will be observed on Friday, October 10, 2025. According to the Hindu lunar calendar, Karwa Chauth falls on the Chaturthi Tithi of Krishna Paksha in the month of Kartik.

The auspicious Karwa Chauth puja muhurat for Delhi in 2025 begins at 5:57 PM and concludes at 7:11 PM, offering a window of one hour and fourteen minutes for evening rituals. Women traditionally perform their prayers during this time before eagerly awaiting the moonrise to break their fast. The spiritual atmosphere for this significant day commences early, with the Purnima Tithi beginning at 6:19 AM.

City-wise Puja and Fasting Timings

The fasting period generally extends from sunrise until the sighting of the moon in each respective city.

In New Delhi, the fast begins at 6:19 AM and ends at 8:13 PM, with the puja muhurat scheduled from 5:57 PM to 7:11 PM. Nearby cities like Noida and Gurugram will follow very similar schedules.

For those in Ahmedabad, the fast can be observed from 6:34 AM, breaking around 8:47 PM. In Mumbai, devotees should fast from 6:31 AM to 8:55 PM, while Pune will see similar timings, with rituals concluding just a few minutes earlier.

Further south, Bengaluru’s fasting hours are from 6:09 AM to 8:49 PM, and Chennai residents will observe from 5:59 AM to 8:38 PM. In the east, Kolkata begins its fast early at 5:31 AM, concluding by 7:42 PM.

For northern regions, Jaipur observes fasting from 6:24 AM to 8:23 PM, Chandigarh from 6:22 AM to 8:09 PM, and Hyderabad from 6:08 AM to 8:36 PM.

Karwa Chauth 2025 Moonrise Times

The moonrise is undeniably the most anticipated moment of the evening. Women eagerly await its appearance, holding a sieve in one hand and a thali (plate) in the other.

In Delhi and Noida, the moon is expected to grace the sky at 8:13 PM. The northern belt, including Chandigarh, Punjab, Jammu, and Ludhiana, will witness moonrise between 8:08 PM and 8:11 PM. Dehradun can expect its first glimpse around 8:04 PM, with Shimla’s hills seeing it slightly later at 8:06 PM.

In eastern India, Patna’s moon will rise by 7:48 PM, and Kolkata’s even earlier at 7:41 PM. Lucknow and Prayagraj can anticipate moonrise near 8:02 PM.

Moving west, Jaipur’s moonrise is predicted around 8:22 PM, Indore at 8:33 PM, and Bhopal at 8:26 PM. Coastal Mumbai will wait until 8:55 PM, while Ahmedabad’s moonrise is set for 8:47 PM. The earliest moonrise among major cities is in Raipur, at approximately 7:43 PM.

The Rituals and Their Meaning

Pre-Dawn: Sargi

The day commences before sunrise with ‘Sargi,’ a special meal lovingly prepared by the mother-in-law. This meal typically consists of nourishing items like fruits, dry fruits, sweets, and light snacks, all designed to provide energy for the long fast ahead. Consuming Sargi before dawn symbolizes blessings, affection, and profound gratitude.

Day-Long Fast

From sunrise onwards, women undertake a ‘nirjala vrat,’ meaning they abstain completely from both food and water until the moon appears. This rigorous fast signifies devotion, discipline, and unwavering faith. It’s also a precious time for introspection and to express gratitude for the enduring strength of marriage and partnership.

Evening Puja and Katha

During the designated puja muhurat, between 5:57 PM and 7:11 PM, women gather to perform sacred rituals. They meticulously decorate their thalis with diyas (lamps), roli (red powder), rice, and sweets. The ‘Karwa,’ an earthen pot filled with water, holds deep symbolism, representing prosperity and emotional nourishment. Participants attentively listen to the Karwa Chauth Katha, a cherished legend that celebrates loyalty, devotion, and the spiritual bond shared between husband and wife.

The Moonrise Ritual

When the moon finally makes its appearance, women view it through a sieve, then turn the same sieve towards their husband’s face. They then offer water to the moon, a gesture of gratitude and a prayer for harmony in their lives. Following this, the husband offers his wife the first sip of water or a sweet, ceremonially marking the culmination of her day-long fast.

This act of gazing at the moon is profoundly symbolic, representing clarity, calm, and the essential balance of emotion – all vital qualities for a loving and enduring companionship.

Astrological and Spiritual Significance

This year’s Karwa Chauth falls on a Friday, a day inherently ruled by Venus (Shukra), the planet associated with love, beauty, and relationships. Moreover, the moon, which governs emotions and intuition, forms a favorable alignment with Venus on October 10, 2025.

Astrologically, this powerful combination is believed to significantly enhance tenderness and mutual understanding between couples. Performing the Karwa Chauth puja on this Venus-ruled day is thought to strengthen the 7th house in one’s horoscope, the astrological sector linked directly to marriage, partnership, and harmony.

Spiritually, fasting itself is a practice of purification and renewal. The moon embodies surrender and patience, while Venus symbolizes deep connection and affection. Together, their energies on this day inspire a profound balance in both emotional and material aspects of life.

For those interested in astrology and spiritual wellness, Karwa Chauth 2025 offers not just a day of devotion, but a unique opportunity to amplify the positive energies of love, faith, and gratitude in their lives.
