Kalyan Kumar has officially assumed the pivotal roles of Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD & CEO) at the Central Bank of India. His appointment marks a new chapter for the institution, following the retirement of his predecessor, M.V. Rao, who concluded his service on July 31, 2025.
Prior to taking on this significant leadership position, Mr. Kumar served with distinction as the Executive Director of Punjab National Bank, a role he held since October 2021.
Mr. Kumar brings a wealth of expertise and academic credentials to his new office. He holds a Post Graduate degree from Rajendra Prasad Agriculture University, Pusa, and is a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers (CAIIB). His professional development includes multiple specialized certifications from IIBF in critical areas such as Trade Finance, SME Finance, IT Security, and KYC-AML.
His impressive leadership journey also encompasses advanced training with the Banks Board Bureau and participation in the prestigious Director Development Programme, conducted collaboratively by Egon Zehnder and Harvard University.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) officially greenlit his appointment on September 29, 2025, setting the stage for his tenure at the helm of Central Bank of India.
