JNU Student Elections 2025-26: Key Dates and What to Expect

October 27, 2025
in Education
Reading Time: 3 min

Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is currently in a crucial stage of its 2025-26 student election cycle. Today, October 27, 2025, aspiring leaders are submitting their nominations for the polls scheduled for November 4. Nomination forms were initially distributed on October 25, 2025, between 2 PM and 5 PM, with today being the deadline for submission, from 9:30 AM to 5 PM.

Final Candidate List

The official list of validated nominations will be announced at 10 AM on October 28, 2025. Candidates then have a window from 2 PM to 5 PM on the same day to withdraw their names. By 7 PM on October 28, the definitive roster of candidates will be released, followed by a press briefing and the allocation of campaign areas at 8 PM.

Campaigning Heats Up

The campus is already experiencing a surge in campaign activity, which is expected to intensify further once the nomination period concludes. School-level general body meetings are slated from October 29 to 31, 2025, leading up to a university-wide general body meeting on November 1, 2025. The highly anticipated presidential debate will take place on November 2, 2025, with November 3, 2025, observed as a no-campaign day to allow for reflection.

Voting and Results

Students will cast their votes on November 4, 2025, across two sessions: 9 AM to 1 PM and 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM. The counting of votes is set to commence at 9 PM, and final results are anticipated by November 6, 2025.

Ensuring Fair Play

The election process kicked off on October 24, 2025, with the provisional voters’ list being published and subsequent corrections initiated. JNU has also established a dedicated grievance redressal cell to ensure the smooth and fair conduct of the elections and to resolve any disputes that may arise.

The Pulse of Campus Politics

These elections are often seen as a barometer of youth sentiment and ideological currents within India. Various student organizations are actively engaging with the student body, presenting their manifestos, and forging strategic alliances to garner support.

Looking Back: Last Year’s Outcome

In the previous year, Left-backed student groups secured three out of the four central panel positions. The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) achieved a significant win, taking the joint secretary role, marking its first central panel victory in nearly a decade.

As November 4, 2025, draws near, the JNU campus is gearing up for a dynamic polling day where students will exercise their democratic rights. These elections are not just about choosing new leaders; they are a reflection of a politically aware student community, perpetuating JNU’s long-standing tradition as a hub for intellectual discourse, activism, and future leadership.
