During the premiere of “Kiss of the Spider Woman” in New York City, director Bill Condon revealed that Jennifer Lopez played a more significant role than just being a co-star to Diego Luna. Condon told People magazine that Lopez, who has extensive experience in choreography and performance from her own tours and past work, acted as a mentor to Luna, who was initially a non-dancer.
“Diego came into this as a non-dancer,” Condon explained. “He’s a great actor, but he shared his insecurity with Jennifer and she gave him a wonderful note.” This supportive exchange quickly blossomed into a beautiful chemistry between the two actors, making their collaboration on screen even more captivating.
Condon further elaborated on Lopez’s impactful presence on set, noting, “She just knows everything about musical performance, choreographers, staging, all of it. She was a great sounding board for everyone on set.” Luna himself, along with co-star Tonatiuh, praised Lopez’s contributions, with Tonatiuh describing working with her as witnessing “lightning strikes – powerful and beautiful.” The film, a new take on the classic Broadway musical and 1985 movie, follows two prisoners in a South American jail who find escape through fantasy, with Lopez portraying their imagined movie star.
