In a week filled with gaming news, Activision delivered a dose of humor with a new trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. The ad featured Peter Stormare’s character, The Replacer, accidentally launching influencer and boxer Jake Paul into the vast emptiness of outer space. Now, Activision is ensuring the joke lives on by officially bestowing a ‘star’ upon Paul.
Through their official social media channels, Call of Duty announced the designation of a new star, ‘JP-7,’ in Paul’s name. The accompanying image playfully suggested a Jake Paul constellation, solidifying his (fictional) place among the stars.
The official Call of Duty Twitter account posted: “Rumor has it Jake Paul’s still out there… somewhere. The vacuum of space just got a new star 💫 We’re calling it “JP-7” with an image showing the new star and constellation.
This humorous campaign serves as a parody of real-life celebrity space flights, such as the Blue Origin misadventure that garnered widespread mockery for celebrities like Katy Perry, Gayle King, and Jeff Bezos’ wife, Lauren Sanchez. Call of Duty’s satirical ‘celebrity’ crew also included Love Island’s Huda Mustafa, and the trailer introduced Terry Crews and Nikki Glaser as the new Replacers.
A promotional video showcasing the new Replacers and Jake Paul’s space incident was also released.
Looking ahead to the game’s release next month, Treyarch recently unveiled details in their latest Dev Talk video for Black Ops 7. Players can anticipate seven new multiplayer maps, three Zombies maps, fresh weapons, and exciting seasonal events for Season 1.
In other news surrounding the franchise, former Call of Duty boss Glen Schofield shared his concerns regarding the series’ future, suggesting that the games have declined since his departure. Conversely, Activision proudly stated that the most recent Black Ops 7 beta was almost entirely free of cheaters, promising a fairer experience for players.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is set to launch on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC on November 14. Excitingly, it will also be available on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate from day one.
