Spotify users have been reporting significant issues with the app on Android devices in recent weeks. This has led to the popular music streaming application frequently crashing or freezing under specific conditions for a considerable number of users. The problem predominantly affects Samsung and Google Pixel devices, severely impacting the user experience. Spotify has now acknowledged these issues and confirmed that they are currently under investigation, with a fix actively in the works.
Why Is My Spotify App Crashing on Android?
Reports on the Spotify Support forum indicate that the problem primarily arises when the Spotify app is used on Samsung and Google devices connected to a Wi-Fi network. In many reported cases, the app would first freeze and then completely crash.
One user shared their frustration, stating, “As soon as I log in, the app just freezes, and I get the ‘not responding’ notification to close the app. Disconnect from Wi-Fi, though, and all is fine when I reopen.”
In response to these reports, a Spotify moderator initially suggested troubleshooting steps such as disabling any VPN, DNS, or AdBlocker services. They also recommended trying a different Wi-Fi connection, restarting the router, excluding Spotify from battery optimization, and resetting the phone’s network settings to default.
However, these suggested fixes have largely proven ineffective. Another user commented on the forum, saying, “Spotify is unusable in this state, especially because I need Wi-Fi to connect to speakers in my house. It is the only app crashing. Everything else is working fine.”
Users on the forum have consistently reported that despite trying all the suggested solutions from Spotify support, the issue persists. The app only seems to function normally when disconnected from Wi-Fi and using mobile data. While the problem appears to affect a range of Android devices, a significant majority of the affected handsets are Samsung and Google-branded models, including the Google Pixel 9 and Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra.
In an official statement, Spotify confirmed, “We’ve received reports from Android users (mainly Samsung and Google Pixel) experiencing issues where the Spotify app becomes unresponsive, freezes, or crashes when connected to certain WiFi networks.”
The company further reiterated that the issue is actively under investigation. Users currently experiencing app crashes are encouraged to engage with the relevant forum posts to receive updates on potential resolutions as they become available.
