Invincible VS has officially revealed its eighth playable character: Cecil Stedman.
Quarter Up, the studio behind the 3v3 tag fighting game inspired by Robert Kirkman’s Invincible comic series, introduced intelligence agent Cecil Stedman in a new gameplay video. Fans can get an in-depth look at how Cecil operates and learn more about the game’s story mode.
With Cecil’s addition, the roster of Invincible VS now boasts eight playable characters, all voiced by their respective actors from the hit Prime Video animated series. These include Mark Grayson (Invincible himself), Atom Eve, Bulletproof, Thula, Rex Splode, Battle Beast, Omni-Man, and now, the formidable Cecil.
Here’s the official blurb on Cecil:
Fans of the Invincible TV series and comic books have long clamored for Cecil Stedman to join the fight, and now their wishes are granted. Known primarily as the voice in Mark’s earpiece, Cecil steps onto the battlefield in Invincible VS equipped with an arsenal of specialized weapons. He wields plasma pistols, projectile launchers, and grenades, excelling at keeping adversaries at bay. His unique ranged and tactical combat style allows him to skillfully outmaneuver opponents. Furthermore, Cecil can summon an unending supply of Reanimen as backup; with access to ‘The Hammer’ — a massive orbital laser — he is a truly formidable presence in any skirmish.
Beyond the new character, Quarter Up delved deeper into the Invincible VS Story Mode. This standalone narrative, crafted within the Invincible universe, is a collaborative effort by Invincible TV show co-executive producer and writer Helen Leigh, Invincible VS narrative director Mike Rogers, and Robert Kirkman himself. Players can look forward to over 25 minutes of custom animation, designed to feel like an extended special episode of the show, featuring every playable character revealed to date.
Intriguingly, the Story Mode also hints at the debut of a completely new character, one who has never before appeared in any existing Invincible media. While Quarter Up remained tight-lipped about their identity, they did confirm that Cecil will play a crucial role in this unfolding narrative.
Robert Kirkman emphasized the game’s commitment to its source material, stating, “Invincible has always been equally about compelling storytelling and the kind of intense, action-packed fights you can’t look away from.”
He added, “It was crucial for us to capture the very essence of both the comic books and the television series, bringing beloved key characters to life in the game. Through the Story Mode, we hope fans will feel completely immersed, as if they’re watching a new episode, but with the added thrill of experiencing the Invincible universe in a fresh, interactive manner.”
Invincible VS is slated for release in 2026 across Xbox Series X and S, PlayStation 5, and PC. Interested players can sign up for a chance to participate in the upcoming Closed Alpha later this year.
