The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has taken stringent disciplinary action, cancelling the NEET PG results of 22 candidates and disqualifying 11 Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) aspirants. This widespread action addresses alleged malpractice across various examination sessions from 2021 to 2025, with 13 of the NEET PG disqualifications stemming from the 2025 session alone.
NBEMS has explicitly declared that the scorecards and results of all 22 affected candidates are null and void. The board emphasized that presenting these invalidated results for any purpose, including gaining admission to postgraduate courses, securing employment, or professional registration, would be deemed unlawful. Furthermore, NBEMS has unequivocally stated that it bears no responsibility or liability for any admissions, employment, or enrollments obtained using these canceled results.
Five Years of Scrutiny: Disqualifications Across Multiple Sessions
The disqualifications span five examination cycles. Out of the 22 candidates whose results were invalidated, 13 participated in NEET PG 2025, three in 2024, four in 2023, and one each in 2022 and 2021. This decision was reached by the board’s Examination Ethics Committee after an extensive investigation into reported malpractice incidents across these sessions.
Notably, one candidate, Srusti Bommanahalli Rajanna, was disqualified following a specific ruling from the Karnataka High Court in Writ Petition No. 5785/2025. The remaining 21 candidates were found culpable of employing unfair means by the NBEMS ethics panel.
Heightened Concerns Over Exam Transparency
This year’s NEET PG exam saw participation from over 2.42 lakh candidates, with 1,28,116 declared qualified for admission to Doctor of Medicine (MD), Master of Surgery (MS), and PG Diploma courses. However, the announcement of the counseling schedule for NEET PG 2025 remains pending. The examination process itself is currently under intense legal scrutiny due to transparency concerns and an ongoing petition that calls for the release of complete question papers and answer keys.
FMGE Aspirants Also Face Disqualification
In addition to the NEET PG candidates, NBEMS has also revoked the candidatures of 11 students who sat for the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) between 2021 and 2025. These individuals were similarly found to have engaged in unfair practices during their examinations.
The FMGE, which is a crucial step for foreign-trained medical graduates seeking to practice in India, reported a significant drop in its pass percentage this year. The June 2025 session recorded a pass rate of just 18.61%, marking a nearly 11% point decrease from the previous year. Out of 37,207 registered candidates, only 6,707 successfully met the qualification criteria.
NBEMS reaffirmed its unwavering dedication to upholding the integrity and fairness of all medical entrance and licensure examinations. The board issued a stern warning that decisive action will continue to be taken against any candidate found to be compromising the integrity of the assessment process.
