The Indian government has given its approval to seven new projects as part of the ambitious Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS). These approvals come from a pool of 249 proposals, Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced.
The initial approved projects focus on crucial areas of electronics manufacturing, including printed circuit boards (which form the base of motherboards), camera modules, copper laminates, and polypropylene films, vital components for various consumer electronics.
According to Electronics and IT Secretary S. Krishnan, these approved initiatives represent a combined investment of ₹5,532 crore. Furthermore, these projects are expected to generate employment opportunities for 5,195 individuals across the sector.
The Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) has proven highly successful, having garnered investment proposals totaling ₹1.15 lakh crore. While the first phase of the scheme concluded on September 30, the application window for capital equipment support remains open, indicating continued government support for expanding the electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
