Get ready, Pharloom explorers! The highly anticipated second post-release patch for Hollow Knight: Silksong is officially on its way, bringing a host of improvements to your adventure.
While the first major patch primarily tackled “critical issues,” this new update from Team Cherry focuses on resolving other persistent problems and “cleaning up some bugs around specific tools.” (Don’t worry, we’re talking about in-game glitches, not actual insects from the Citadel!)
Before this update rolls out to everyone, Team Cherry is giving eager players a chance to test it through a public-beta branch on Steam. If you’re a PC player, you can opt-in to download this version. Just remember, while it includes fixes, it might also introduce some instability, so proceed with caution. More details about the public beta are available on the game’s Steam discussion page.
Looking at the detailed patch notes below, Update 2 doesn’t introduce any massive balance shifts like Update 1, which aimed to make the early game a bit smoother. However, Team Cherry has hinted at “a few more additions and tweaks” before the full release, so there might still be some surprises in store for players.
Hollow Knight: Silksong Update 2 Patch Notes:
- Added a Dithering effect option in Advanced video settings. This helps reduce color banding but might slightly soften the look of foreground elements. It defaults to ‘Off’.
- Updated the Herald’s Wish achievement description to clarify that players must complete the wish and finish the game.
- Fixed instances where the Savage Beastfly in Far Fields would sometimes get stuck below the lava.
- Resolved rare issues where Shrine Guardian Seth could move out of bounds during combat.
- Implemented a safeguard to prevent Lugoli from flying off-screen and not returning during battles.
- Further decreased the likelihood of Silk Snippers getting stuck out of bounds in the Chapel of the Reaper encounter.
- Addressed various situations where dying to a boss while simultaneously defeating it would cause death sequences to play incorrectly or out of sync.
- Fixed a softlock issue caused by Shaman Binding into a bottom transition.
- Adjusted Cocoon positions in certain areas to prevent them from spawning in inaccessible locations.
- Ensured Liquid Lacquer courier delivery is now accessible in Steel Soul mode.
- Corrected issues where some NPCs weren’t properly delivering cursed hint dialogues.
- Fixed Pondcatcher Reed’s inability to fly away after singing.
- Fixed Verdania memory orbs sometimes replaying layered screen-edge burst effects.
- Fixed the break counter not registering correctly for certain multi-hitter tools, such as the Conchcutter.
- Corrected an issue where the Volt Filament damage multiplier wasn’t applying to specific Silk Skills.
- Fixed Cogflies and Wisps inappropriately targeting Skullwings.
- Fixed Cogflies incorrectly resetting their HP to full upon scene changes.
- Resolved Curveclaw always breaking on the first hit after being deflected.
- Fixed Plasmium Phial and Flea Brew sometimes not restoring health as intended at benches.
- Included various other minor tweaks and fixes for overall game stability.
Our review of Hollow Knight: Silksong hailed it as ‘Amazing,’ giving it a 9/10. We lauded it for being “packed full of sharp platforming, enticing exploration, and nail-biting combat that’s all unapologetically challenging in just the right way.” However, the creative director of Hell is Us, Jonathan Jacques-Belletête, had previously described Team Cherry’s last-minute release strategy as “a little callous.”
