In a significant stride for international commerce, the free trade agreement between India and the four-nation European Free Trade Association (EFTA) has officially taken effect. Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal announced this pivotal development on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, hailing it as a truly historic day.
Minister Goyal conveyed his profound optimism regarding the agreement, emphasizing its potential to usher in a new era of growth and prosperity. He stated that the pact is strategically positioned to “unlock new opportunities for trade, investment & job creation,” ensuring widespread benefits for both Indian citizens and businesses.
Reinforcing this positive outlook, Guy Parmelin, Head of the Swiss Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research, publicly acknowledged the activation of the accord. He confirmed, “Today marks the entry into force of the Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) between EFTA and India,” highlighting the collaborative spirit and mutual commitment behind this partnership.
