It’s been almost two years since the legendary Hideo Kojima and acclaimed director Jordan Peele first announced their collaboration on the upcoming horror game, OD. While Kojima’s attention was primarily on completing Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Kojima Productions recently unveiled a chilling new preview for OD during the ‘Beyond the Strand’ event. This tantalizing glimpse strongly suggests that Kojima is channeling the unsettling atmosphere of P.T., the iconic playable trailer for his much-missed Silent Hills project.
Check out the unnerving preview below:
The new footage deliberately obscures crucial backstory text, making the game’s precise narrative difficult to grasp. Sophia Lillis, known for her role in Stephen King’s It, portrays the main character. Much of the gameplay is presented from a first-person perspective, starting with Lillis’ character receiving a cryptic note slipped under her door.
As Lillis’ character lights several candles, the atmosphere quickly intensifies. The tension culminates when an unseen entity enters the room from behind her, rendering her paralyzed with fear before it makes physical contact.
Veteran actor Udo Kier and rising star Hunter Schafer are confirmed to co-star with Lillis, though their specific roles remain shrouded in mystery. Kojima Productions has, however, confirmed that the game’s stunning, hyper-realistic character models and overall visuals are powered by Unreal Engine.
OD currently has no set release date, but it will be published by Xbox Game Studios. While this doesn’t definitively exclude a PlayStation 5 release, it has not yet been confirmed. Interestingly, Hideki Kamiya, director of Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry, recently expressed his desire for Kojima to create a game in the vein of P.T., and it seems his wish has come true.
Accompanying the preview, a gallery titled ‘The Most-Anticipated Horror Games Of 2025 And Beyond’ offers a look at other upcoming titles in the genre.
