The Foreign Ministers of Germany, Jordan, and the United Kingdom have united in an urgent plea for an immediate ceasefire in Sudan. On Saturday, November 1, 2025, they painted a grim picture of the conflict, describing the situation as ‘apocalyptic’ following a paramilitary force’s seizure of the last major city in the nation’s Darfur region.
United Nations officials have issued stark warnings, detailing how fighters from the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have unleashed a reign of terror in el-Fasher. Reports indicate that over 450 people were tragically killed in a hospital, alongside ethnically targeted killings of civilians and horrific sexual assaults. While the RSF denies these hospital killings, accounts from those who escaped el-Fasher, coupled with satellite imagery and social media videos, strongly suggest widespread mass slaughter unfolding in the city.
Speaking at the Manama Dialogue security summit in Bahrain, British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper did not mince words about the events in el-Fasher. “Just as a combination of leadership and international cooperation has made progress in Gaza, it is currently badly failing to deal with the humanitarian crisis and the devastating conflict in Sudan,” Ms. Cooper stated. She highlighted the “truly horrifying atrocities” reported from Darfur, including “mass executions, starvation and the devastating use of rape as a weapon of war, with women and children bearing the brunt of the largest humanitarian crisis in the 21st century. For too long, this terrible conflict has been neglected, while suffering has simply increased.”
Ms. Cooper emphasized that “no amount of aid can resolve a crisis of this magnitude until the guns fall silent.” German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul echoed her grave concerns, directly attributing the violence in el-Fasher to the RSF. “Sudan is absolutely an apocalyptic situation,” Mr. Wadephul asserted.
Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi also weighed in, noting that Sudan has not received “the attention it deserves. A humanitarian crisis of inhumane proportions has taken place there. We’ve got to stop that,” he urged.
