The much-anticipated anime adaptation of Xemono and WSS Playground’s cult hit video game, NEEDY GIRL OVERDOSE (known in the West as NEEDY STREAMER OVERLOAD), has just unveiled an electrifying new trailer! This exciting preview not only offered a glimpse into the series but also confirmed an April 2026 broadcast date.
Fans were treated to an early listen of the anime’s opening theme song, ‘INTERNET ANGEL,’ powerfully performed by the character Choten-chan. The track is a collaboration between composer Aiobahn +81 and lyricist nyalra, promising to set the perfect tone for the series. Additionally, the trailer introduced Anna Nagase as a new voice actress joining the cast, portraying the character Kache.
Bringing this unique story to life is a talented team. Masaoki Nakashima, known for his work as an episode director on ‘New PANTY & STOCKING with GARTERBELT,’ is directing the anime at Yostar Pictures. Main character designs are being crafted by Kenji Saikai, Akari Takei, and Kaito Shimizu, while the distinctive musical landscape is being shaped by Aiobahn +81, Sasuke Haraguchi, and DÉ DÉ MOUSE. The original narrative was penned by nyalra, with stunning original character designs by Ohisashiburi.
Further enhancing the visual and auditory experience are Art Director Ryuta Hayashi, 3DCG Artists Kaoru Marumoto, Yume Sakai, and Daisuke Katano, Color Designer Naoto Kondo, and 3DCG Production by CHOTOTU. Tailor Animation handles special skill design, with editing by Keisuke Yanagi and ACE, and cinematography by Wu Jiann-horng. The sound design is robust, with Fumiyuki Go as Sound Director, Rei Ueno on Sound Effects, and Bit grooove promotion overseeing Sound Production. Ryosuke Inagaki provides production supervision.
To recap the game’s journey, the original NEEDY GIRL OVERDOSE has garnered immense popularity since its initial release for Windows and MacOS on January 21, 2022. It later expanded its reach to Nintendo Switch on October 27 of the same year, and will soon be available on PlayStation 4 and 5 on January 20, 2025. The game’s success is undeniable, boasting over 3 million downloads and an astounding 400 million streams for its associated music tracks.
The game, described as a ‘multi-ending ADV,’ delves into the daily life of ‘OMGkawaiiAngel,’ a young woman with an intense need for validation, striving to become the top ‘Internet Angel’ (streamer). Players guide OMGkawaiiAngel as she builds her follower count, navigates various ‘stress relievers,’ and grapples with her often chaotic reality. It’s a journey filled with wild highs and lows, challenging players to discover if a happy ending is truly possible in this uniquely ‘messed up’ narrative.
