For those unfamiliar with the captivating premise, Hanashi Media, publisher of the official English light novel series, provides a fascinating glimpse into the story. Prince Cecil, a prodigy whose life has always felt rather uneventful, finds his world irrevocably changed upon his engagement to Miss Bertia, the Chancellor’s daughter. This isn’t your typical fairytale romance, however. Bertia delivers a bombshell declaration: ‘Prince Cecil! I must confess – I am the villain of this story!’ Possessing memories from a past life where she was the antagonist in an ‘Otome game,’ Bertia’s grand aspiration is to flawlessly fulfill her role as a villainess, believing this will lead to the annulment of their engagement. Yet, despite her best efforts and meticulously planned ‘misdeeds,’ her schemes consistently fall flat. The central question remains: Is her fiancé, who seems to appreciate her villainous attempts, simply misinterpreting her intentions, or is there more to Bertia’s self-proclaimed destiny than meets the eye?
Fans eager to explore the story further can also delve into the manga adaptation by Natsume Hasumi, digitally published in English by Alpha Manga under the title An Observation Log of My Fiancée Who Calls Herself a Villainess.
