Get ready for a smarter messaging experience! Google Messages is on the verge of introducing a new, AI-powered ‘Insights’ feature. Recently discovered in a beta version of the app, this exciting addition promises to revolutionize how you interact with shared links in your personal and group conversations. Imagine an ‘Insights’ button, complete with a distinctive Gemini AI icon, appearing right below every link preview. When fully launched, this feature could offer invaluable summaries and key information about the web pages shared with you, all without ever leaving your chat.
Deep Dive: ‘Insights’ Feature Unearthed in Google Messages Beta
Thanks to a recent APK teardown of the Google Messages app by Android Authority, we now know that Google is actively developing this innovative ‘Insights’ feature. Discovered in Google Messages version 20251006 beta, its primary goal is to empower users to effortlessly manage and understand links shared across their individual and group conversations.
Android Authority provided the first sneak peek at the ‘Insights’ feature within Google Messages. Their screenshots clearly show the distinctive Gemini icon integrated into the ‘Insights’ button, positioned directly beneath link previews. This offers a visual confirmation of how the feature will appear to users.

Since this feature is still under active development and not yet officially rolled out, attempting to tap the ‘Insights’ button in the beta currently displays a message: “Gemini isn’t available right now.” This indicates that Google is still fine-tuning the AI integration before a wider release.
Interestingly, the ‘Insights’ button won’t show up when you’re the one sharing a link. It also stays hidden unless you specifically enable the Show only web link previews option within your Google Messages settings.
The core promise of the ‘Insights’ feature, according to the report, is to deliver swift, AI-generated summaries of web pages. This means users could grasp the essence of a shared link without the need to open and manually browse the full page. However, as Google has yet to officially unveil ‘Insights’ in Google Messages, its complete set of capabilities and final functionality are still awaiting confirmation.
Beyond ‘Insights’, Google is consistently enhancing Google Messages with various new capabilities. For example, they recently expanded the Sensitive Content Warning feature to include videos. This valuable addition allows Google Messages to scan both incoming and outgoing videos for nudity and other explicit content, rolling out with the October 2025 Play Services update (v25.39). Powered by SafetyCore, this works in a similar vein to Apple’s Sensitive Content Warning on iOS, offering users an extra layer of privacy and safety.
