Sony and Marvel are reportedly bringing Marvin Jones III back to the Spider-Man universe, this time casting him as the live-action supervillain Tombstone for the upcoming film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
According to reports, Jones, who lent his distinctive voice to Tombstone in Sony’s critically acclaimed 2018 animated hit Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, will now embody a fresh, live-action interpretation of the character.

Tombstone, also known as Lonnie Lincoln, is a formidable, almost indestructible New York crime boss. He’s been a fan-favorite Spider-Man adversary since his first appearance in Marvel Comics’ The Spectacular Spider-Man #139 back in April 1988. Marvel’s official description highlights his impact:
Of all the formidable foes in Spider-Man’s rogues gallery, few are as grim-faced as Tombstone, the New York mobster otherwise known as Lonnie Lincoln. Whether working solo, as part of an organized crime outfit, or on a super villain team, Tombstone has consistently posed a grave threat to Spider-Man.
More than just being an enemy of Spider-Man, however, Tombstone also has ties to people very close to Peter Parker, making him an even more personal adversary for the web-slinging hero.

Jones is no stranger to supervillain roles, having portrayed Tobias Whale in the live-action Arrowverse series Black Lightning from 2018-2021, and Cysgod in the recent action thriller Shadow Force. He joins a stellar cast for Brand New Day, including Tom Holland as Spider-Man, Zendaya as MJ, Jacob Batalon as Ned, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner / The Hulk, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle / Punisher, and Stranger Things star Sadie Sink alongside Liza Colón-Zayas. The MCU film is currently scheduled for a July 31, 2025 release, despite a recent production pause due to a head injury sustained by Holland during a stunt.
Tom Holland has previously hinted that Spider-Man: Brand New Day feels like “the first movie in the next chapter” of his acclaimed web-slinging saga, even as he contemplates an acting hiatus in 2027. While his involvement in future Avengers films like Avengers: Doomsday (next year) and Avengers: Secret Wars (2027) remains unconfirmed, it’s certainly hard to picture the Avengers without their friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.
After wrapping up his work on Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Marvin Jones III is also slated to return to his animated roots, reprising his voice role as Tombstone in 2027’s highly anticipated Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
