There’s something uniquely captivating about a great shooter game that just demands all my free time. While real-world firearms don’t pique my interest, virtual gunplay with engaging mechanics instantly clicks with me. Especially if you throw in unique hero abilities and fluid movement, I’m absolutely hooked. It’s tough for new first-person shooters to carve out a niche in today’s crowded market, but Heart Electric looks like it has the potential to shake things up. With its innovative movement, sharp gunplay, and fresh twists on the genre, it could truly capture the gaming world’s attention. We’ll soon get our first taste during the upcoming global playtest later this month.
Imagine a hero shooter as vibrant and engaging as Overwatch 2, but with its own distinct flair. That’s Heart Electric. Its eye-catching, colorful art style immediately sets it apart from many of the grittier shooters out there, and its gameplay promises even more exciting divergences from the norm.
Players will dive into intense 4v4v4v4 battles, where custom loadouts and unique hero abilities are essential. A mysterious ‘flux’ power introduces new ways to traverse the map and can be captured for strategic advantage. Combat appears to be a thrilling blend of strategic cat-and-mouse gameplay and chaotic, bullet-riddled skirmishes.
Initially, Heart Electric had announced a playtest for this month, but unforeseen scheduling conflicts with the Arc Raiders playtest, set for the same weekend, prompted a slight delay. This plucky hero shooter, developed by former Helldivers 2 and Battlefield talents, has now shifted its playtest back by one week to ensure everyone gets a fair chance to participate.
While it might seem unusual for a hero shooter to incorporate elements from an extraction shooter, Heart Electric masterfully weaves them in. The mechanic of “hacking” enemy ‘hearts’ provides vital energy to revive fallen teammates, creating a high-stakes, high-reward dynamic. This unique twist challenges teams to make critical, split-second decisions amidst intense combat.
Heart Electric ambitiously blends multiple shooter genres: it starts with a four-way skirmish, transitions into an extraction-style mid-game, and culminates in a battle royale-like finale with only two teams remaining. Whether this unique fusion will create a truly cohesive and engaging experience remains to be seen, but I’m certainly eager to jump in and experience it firsthand.
The global playtest for Heart Electric is scheduled to run from Friday, October 24, through Sunday, October 26. Information on how to request access to the playtest will be made available soon.
If you’re looking for something to play in the meantime, there are plenty of excellent multiplayer games available to keep you entertained until Heart Electric’s playtest arrives. It would also be wise to practice your teamwork and communication skills, as they will undoubtedly be crucial for success in this new title.
