Former NFL quarterback and current Fox Sports commentator, Mark Sanchez, found himself in a serious situation on Saturday. He was arrested following a stabbing in downtown Indianapolis, an incident that led to his hospitalization in stable condition, according to local police reports.
Authorities confirmed that Sanchez was charged at the hospital with several misdemeanors, including battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication.
He remains under medical care and has not yet been formally booked. Further details regarding the circumstances leading up to the altercation have not been released.
Earlier that day, in response to inquiries about Sanchez’s injuries, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department issued a statement concerning a stabbing that occurred around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, where two men sustained injuries.
The police statement noted that one man suffered lacerations, while the other appeared to have stab wounds.
Investigators believe the incident was an isolated event between the two individuals and not a random act of violence. They also mentioned that the men involved were not local residents of Indianapolis and that the entire altercation was captured on video.
Representatives for Mr. Sanchez have not yet responded to requests for comment. Fox Sports also declined to comment on his arrest Saturday night.
Prior to his arrest, Fox Sports had shared on social media that they were grateful for the medical team caring for Sanchez and confirmed he was in stable condition.
Sanchez, 38, was a prominent figure in the NFL, drafted fifth overall in 2009. He played five seasons with the New York Jets, leading them to the playoffs twice, though he missed the entire 2013 season due to injury.
His NFL career spanned 10 seasons, including stints with the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, and Washington Redskins, before he retired in 2019 to become a football analyst.
It is understood that Sanchez was in Indianapolis to broadcast the Las Vegas Raiders versus Indianapolis Colts game on Sunday afternoon, fulfilling his analyst duties for the network.
He was scheduled to call Sunday’s game alongside fellow Fox Sports sportscaster Chris Myers.
